The Kansas City Chiefs have placed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the non-football illness list, according to ESPN.
Edwards-Helaire will miss at least the first four games of the season before being eligible to return.
The running back, whom the Chiefs selected in the first round in 2020, has recently spoken out about an ongoing battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Earlier this month, Edwards-Helaire spoke out about her struggles with her mental health.
“Sometimes when I’m admitted to the hospital, I can’t stop throwing up and I don’t know how to stop it,” Edwards-Helaire said. “It’s very severe dehydration… but it’s really just a matter of not being mentally present.”

The Chiefs running back has been open about his struggles with PTSD.
Edwards-Helaire has also taken to social media to address the issue after missing several training camp practices. He was not on the practice field with the Chiefs on Sunday.
“Living with PTSD is no easy feat; it’s difficult and very overwhelming,” Edwards-Helaire posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“I’ve had a lot of flare-ups over the last month and the amazing staff at the Chiefs has helped me get through some tough times. I’ll be back on track at the next practice!”
Last month, Edwards-Helaire provided an exact date he began experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) — Dec. 22, 2018 — but did not elaborate beyond saying he and a friend were in what he called a “self-defense situation.”
While Edwards-Helaire was at LSU, he and a teammate were trying to sell an electronic item when one of the two players shot an 18-year-old who was trying to rob them.
Police did not identify the players, but the Associated Press reported that one of them was Edwards-Helaire.
Recently, Edwards-Helaire has taken on the role of backing up Isaiah Pacheco at running back. Kansas City recently added veteran running back Samaje Perine to its roster. Rookie Carson Steele also joined the team.
