Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown will miss the entire regular season

Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown has been ruled out for the entire regular season by the Kansas City Chiefs, according to reports.

The wide receiver was one of the Super Bowl champion’s star acquisitions this offseason, signing a one-year deal after two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

He suffered a shoulder injury in his preseason debut that now requires surgery, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports he’ll be out until at least January.

The news will be a hard blow for Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and company, who are looking to secure a three-peat after two consecutive Super Bowls.

After the game against the Jaguars in August, Andy Reid revealed it was a “dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint,” and this week the head coach said it would be “months instead of weeks.”

And now the $7 million-a-year receiver will finish the season with just one preseason snap to his name.

ESPN reports there’s still a chance he could return for the postseason if Kansas City gets there, but he’s not expected back before mid-January.

The injury will seemingly ensure that rookie Xavier Worthy sees a lot of the ball in 2024.

The Chiefs’ wide receiver corps still managed to be productive in a 28-20 Week 1 win over Baltimore in Brown’s absence.

Second-year pro Rashee Rice had seven receptions for 103 yards, first-round draft pick Worthy had rushing and receiving touchdowns, and versatile backup Justin Watson caught a 25-yard reception on his only target of the 27-20 victory.

The Chiefs are also hoping to get more out of JuJu Smith-Schuster this week. He was released by the Patriots and had just a couple of practices after re-signing with Kansas City before facing the Ravens, which would have limited the number of plays Smith-Schuster would have been able to run.

The Chiefs will face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 on Sunday night.
