Kansas City Chiefs rocked as Steve Spagnuolo drops major exit hint days before the playoffs

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo admitted he wants another chance as an NFL head coach.

Spagnuolo is highly respected in Kansas City and has played a central role in the team’s run to two consecutive Super Bowl titles.

But now, speaking as the Chiefs finalize their playoff preparations, Spagnuolo hinted that he sees his future outside the organization.

When asked if he would ever want a chance as a head coach, he said, “I’ll deal with that later.”

‘The answer is yes, but now it’s all about Denver (the Chiefs play the Broncos on Sunday). “I’ll let all of that take care of itself.”

Spagnuolo’s comments will undoubtedly put many teams on alert, coming at a time when several NFL vacancies are expected to become available in the offseason.

But there is a slim chance there will be a vacancy in Kansas City. Last year, head coach Andy Reid, 66, put an end to retirement rumors by signing a new five-year contract to stay.

Spagnuolo coached the St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2011, but they endured a nightmare 1-15 season in his first year. The second improved, reaching 7-9, but the third and final year he finished with a 2-14 record before he was fired.

The Chiefs are expected to rest several key players before the game in Denver on Saturday. Patrick Mahomes is definitely out and Travis Kelce is expected to be absent as well.
