  • Kane Cornes has landed a new role on Channel 7
  • The football legend made a name for himself on Channel 9
  • He said he was delighted to be joining the “true home of the AFL”.

Football fans will be able to watch Kane Cornes on Channel 7 next season after the media personality confirmed he has left Channel 9 for rival broadcaster.

The Port Adelaide great has established himself as one of the most divisive figures in football due to his strong opinions on the game, which he has broadcast on Nine and SEN throughout his media career.

Fox Footy had been heavily linked with a possible move for the 41-year-old but on Tuesday announced he will take his talents to Seven, where he will work on matchdays as well as evening news and football shows.

“I was really excited to hear about this opportunity. It was too good to pass up,” he said on SEN radio on Tuesday.

‘I’m a bit disappointed with Channel 9 because they’ve been amazing and it’s a great place to work.

‘I get along really well with everyone there and I think the shows we do there are great.

“Telling everyone like I did (on Monday) was a weight off my chest and I’m moving on to a place I’m really excited to join.”

The title winner will join the 7AFL side from next season. In a press release issued by the broadcaster, he said he was delighted to be part of “the true home of the AFL”.

“I have immense confidence in the network’s leadership and the exciting direction of 7AFL’s cutting-edge broadcast,” he said.

‘The opportunity to work on the biggest games in free-to-air coverage and share my knowledge on 7NEWS and throughout the week is an incredible opportunity.

‘Seven is the true home of the AFL and next season promises to be the most exciting yet and I look forward to being a part of it.’

Seven’s news director Anthony De Ceglie praised Cornes’ work as a football commentator.

“Kane is the number one voice in football,” he said. “He creates the news or presents the most intelligent view possible on the issues.”

‘We look forward to welcoming Kane to the Seven family and look forward to hearing his insightful opinions regularly on 7NEWS throughout the year.’

Given its divisive nature, the reaction from football fans was, unsurprisingly, divided.

“Tell me it’s not like that,” said one disappointed fan.

“Just when I thought the comment couldn’t get any worse… channel 7 ‘hold my beer’,” said another.

A third fan added: “Fox Footy subscriptions have gone through the roof.”

Others, however, were delighted.

“A fantastic signing,” said one fan. Another said: “I’m not really bothered by it.”

A third fan said: “Can’t wait,” alongside clapping emojis.
