Kamala Harris has taken a five-point lead over Donald Trump with just 63 days until Election Day.
USA Today/Suffolk Poll Data released Tuesday shows the vice president has changed the script of the 2024 race since President Joe Biden dropped out.
In the same May poll, Biden and Trump were tied, but a surge in Democratic enthusiasm has allowed Harris to strengthen her lead.
Nearly 70 percent of the party is now enthusiastic about voting for Harris, more than double the number Biden said since June.
The results show that the debate a week from now is crucial for both candidates.

Trump’s approval rating has never strayed far from 40% for nearly a decade. Regardless of his divisive policies, Covid, the accusations, who his number two was, or whatever bile he has spewed on social media, the jury of public opinion on Donald Trump is out.
In 2024, the winner will be the fresh one and the rotten one. It’s very simple: the shepherd of tomorrow wins the sheep.
Disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo will face a firing squad in Congress over his handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic
Andrew Cuomo owes answers to the 15,000 families who lost loved ones in New York City nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On September 10, Americans will have the chance to hear directly from the former governor about New York’s potentially fatal nursing home policies.
During his closed-door testimony, Cuomo was shockingly callous when pressed to explain discrepancies in nursing home death counts, repeatedly evaded responsibility for the nursing home directive, and, most outrageously, showed little remorse for the thousands of lives lost. A true leader acknowledges his mistakes and takes responsibility for his wrongdoing.
That is not what we saw from Mr. Cuomo during his tenure as governor or during the transcribed interview. We hope that during his public hearing next week, Mr. Cuomo will stop shirking accountability and answer honestly to the American people.
