Vice President Kamala Harris responded to a number of celebrity endorsements in the 2024 presidential race, including a coveted endorsement from megastar Taylor Swift.
The Democratic presidential candidate was interviewed by radio host Stephanie ‘Chiquibaby’ Himonidis, where she highlighted the support of Swift and other stars in the 2024 race.
Himonidis mentioned Swift by name, as well as George Lopez and Eva Longoria, before asking Harris to weigh in on the Mexican band’s decision to drop its collaboration with Nicky Jam, who recently endorsed Trump.
Harris first responded that she was “very grateful” to all the artists who understood what was at stake in the election and supported her candidacy.
“I am very honored to have your support,” said the vice president.
Kamala Harris had the opportunity to weigh in on the support from celebrities, including Taylor Swift, and said she is “honored to have their support.”
Harris added that she is grateful for speaking out.
Just hours after the radio interview aired, another major singer announced her support for Harris. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas revealed their support on X.
Harris’ comments on the Chiquibaby Show mark the first time the vice president has directly weighed in on celebrity endorsements, though she did not mention Swift or any other celebrities by name.
This comes as her campaign has celebrated the superstar’s endorsement of the Democratic candidate.
“I will be a president for all Americans,” Harris said. “I believe there is no place for hate and division in this country.”
He reiterated his call that it is time to “turn the page” on the past decade of division and extremism.
“There’s a lot at stake in this election,” Harris said.
Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social on Sunday, just days after Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president
This comes just days after Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Moments after Tuesday night’s debate, Swift posted on Instagram that she would cast her vote in the 2024 election for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to champion. I think she’s a talented and steady leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we’re guided by calm, not chaos,” Swift wrote.
He also praised Harris’ choice of Walz as her running mate, commending him for “championing LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
He said he did his research and made his decision and encouraged his legions of supporters to do their own research. He also shared a link for people to register to vote.
Swift signed the post as ‘Childless Cat Lady’ in a spoof of Trump’s running mate JD Vance.
More than 400,000 people followed the link on Instagram with information on how to register to vote within 24 hours.
While Harris has not touted her endorsement of Swift during the campaign, her running mate, Tim Walz, has repeatedly praised Swift, his “fellow cat owner,” on the road since the endorsement.
She has also referred to Trump as “the smallest man who ever lived” in a recent reference to a Swift song.
It is worth noting that Harris, during the radio interview recorded on Tuesday, did not directly intervene on the Mana-Nicky Jam controversy or on the reggaeton star’s support for Trump.
Nicky Jam speaks with former President Donald Trump at his rally in Las Vegas on September 13. The former president made a mistake when referring to the Latin singer by saying “she’s sexy” at his rally
The Mexican rock band canceled its collaboration with Jam after he publicly endorsed Trump over the weekend in Las Vegas. In a statement, the band said it “does not work with racists.”
Harris’ campaign did not directly respond to the endorsement, but noted on social media that the former president incorrectly referred to the Latina singer’s gender, saying “she’s sexy.”
Jam initially appeared to downplay the gaffe on Instagram, but later deleted the post.
