Doug Emhoff’s mother and father posted a video on social media of a poem they composed for their daughter-in-law Kamala Harris’ 60th birthday.
Michael Emhoff and Barbara Emhoff, who raised Doug in New Jersey, previously appeared at a Seniors for Harris event for the vice president’s campaign.
On Sunday, as Harris celebrated by singing with Stevie Wonder at an event, they sent her what they described as a “beautiful” poem called “Sixty Stars for Kamala.”
“Sixty years of laughter, sixty years of grace, a guiding light with a smiling face,” Barbara began.
“From the courts to the Senate, the voice of justice endures forever.”

Michael then continued: ‘With every step you have demonstrated your power, inspiring hope, turning wrongs into right. Strong beats in each test, opening paths with courage and style.’
“By the glow of every candle, such a bright wish for all the lives you have helped light,” Barbara continued.
“For sixty more such great dreams, with love and warmth in your hand,” he concluded.
They then wished him a happy birthday from “your dear in-laws, Mike and Barb.”
Social media immediately took notice of how exaggerated the poem was and how the video looked like a hostage clip.
“Blink twice if you’re being held hostage to say this…” one user wrote.
Another said: “The most embarrassing thing I’ve seen all day to be honest.”
“Even her in-laws are written up,” another added, comparing them to Harris’ public appearances.

Since Kamala Harris was nominated by Democrats as the presidential candidate to replace Joe Biden, Emhoff has been more visible.
Emhoff spoke out about his family after the Daily Mail reported Saturday morning that he had an affair with his children’s nanny and got her pregnant during his first marriage to Kerstin Emhoff.
Emhoff, 59, and his ex-wife, film producer Kerstin, 57, ended their 16-year marriage in 2009 when she discovered the affair, according to sources.
The second gentleman responded to news of the affair in a public statement first published on CNN.
“During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through difficult times because of my actions,” Emhoff said in a statement to CNN about his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff. “I took responsibility and in the years since, we got through things as a family and came out stronger on the other side.”
Emhoff met Harris in 2013 when she was California attorney general and the couple married in 2014.
