The ex-wife of Kamala Harris’ husband and mother of her two stepchildren has broken her silence after a clip of vice presidential candidate JD Vance resurfaced in which he refers to Harris as a “childless cat lady.”
Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of second gentleman Doug Emhoff, defended the likely Democratic presidential nominee against “baseless” criticism over his lack of biological children, claiming Harris is an equal co-parent to his children.
“These are baseless facts,” Kerstin said. he told CNN. ‘For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has co-parented with Doug and me.
‘She is loving, protective, fiercely protective, and always present.
‘I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.’

His comments came just hours after Vance’s 2021 interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson went viral on social media.
In the interview, Vance said the United States was run by “a bunch of cat-loving, childless women who are miserable with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
“Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC: the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,” continued Donald Trump’s newly announced running mate.

His comments came just hours after a clip of vice presidential candidate JD Vance resurfaced, in which he referred to Harris as a “childless cat lady.”
But Harris has been a stepmother to Emhoff’s two adult children since she married their father in 2014, and they have affectionately nicknamed her “Momala.”
In 2019, Harris even wrote an essay where she described her stepchildren as her “endless source of love and pure joy” and explained how That’s where the name ‘Momala’ came from.
“A few years later, when Doug and I got married, Cole, Ella and I all agreed that we didn’t like the term ‘stepmom.’ Instead, they came up with the name ‘Momala,'” she wrote in Elle magazine.
The vice president also praised Kerstin as someone who has become a “dear friend.”
“Kerstin and I get along very well and are very close friends,” she wrote in the essay.
“…We sometimes joke that our modern family is almost too functional.”
Harris has been a stepmother to Emhoff’s two adult children since marrying their father in 2014.
Ella Emhoff, now 25, was an art student when Harris was chosen as Biden’s running mate. She has since burst onto the fashion and art scene when her stepmother became the first female vice president of the United States.
In January 2021, Emhoff signed with international modeling agency IMG Models. Since then, she has appeared in a number of major fashion campaigns, walked in some of the world’s biggest runway shows, and walked on numerous red carpets, including the Met Gala.
But his pro-Palestinian leanings have recently created a stir amid the ongoing war in Israel.
As pro-Palestinian protests erupted across the country in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, Emhoff urged his more than 300,000 social media followers to donate to the U.N. agency accused of aiding the terror group.
There no longer appear to be any fundraising links on their Instagram page.

The vice president officiated at her wedding in October 2023 when she married Greenley Littlejohn.
In an interview before Harris was sworn in as vice president, Cole said her father and stepmother “are so cute and so much a couple that it almost makes you want to throw up.”

“It depends on the context,” she said. “Because Doug and Kamala together are so cute and make you gag. I wonder when this will end.”
