Kalgoorlie shooting: Bloodshed in major Australian mining town as man shot dead: ‘Avoid area’
A major incident is unfolding in the mining town of Kalgoorlie after police rush to confront an armed man.
In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Western Australia Police said officers were called following reports of an armed man in an alleyway near Whitlock St.
“Shots were fired and the man was seriously injured,” a spokesperson said. “There is no threat to public safety.”
The man is in his fifties.
Police asked residents to avoid the area with about 20 officers, including medical examiners, on the scene.
Police were called to an alleyway in Kalgoorlie (above) following reports of a man armed with a gun.
Police are also investigating a property near Hopetoun Street.
Nearby residents were shocked by the incident.
“It scared my dog, but I didn’t realize it was a gunshot,” one resident said. ABC News.
“When I saw the police, I realized there was a little more going on.”
Another resident said he heard three gunshots.
