The 18-year-old put pen to paper in 2019 for a four-year deal with the Red Devils, and promised his future to the club.

The youngster shone during his breakout season after manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sold Romelu Lukaku and the attacker promoted to the first team.

Greenwood’s scoring form has made it impossible to let the teen out of the starting lineup, manager Solskjaer said.

Greenwood scored his 16th goal in all competitions for United this season and his fourth in his last three Premier League games, in their 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Thursday.

“You can’t leave players out when they score goals,” said Solskjaer. “He’s 18 and of course he will get better.

He is a natural footballer and has been at the academy from an early age.

“His dad showed me a picture of us together when he was seven. He knows we believe in him. ‘

United are fifth, one point and one place behind Leicester City, having won each of their last four league games by three goals.
