Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that his first season at Juventus was the best of his career.

Ronaldo joined Juventus from Real Madrid last summer and proceeded to help his new side win the Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana before experiencing Nations League glory with Portugal.

Despite his advancing years, Ronaldo was still a major threat for Juventus and scored 28 goals in 43 games across all competitions, while he provided ten assists.

Ronaldo told La Gazzetta dello Sport: ‘It wasn’t easy for me to leave Real Madrid after such a long time and arrive in a different league like Serie A, with new teammates, all at the age of 33.

‘This is why I believe that I had my best season. I won the Scudetto and Italian Super Cup at Juve, then the Nations League with Portugal, so that’s three trophies in just one year.’

Champions League glory continued to elude Juventus, who were knocked out by Ajax at the quarter-finals stage.

However, Ronaldo is adamant that Juventus will win Europe’s elite club competition in the near future.

He said: ‘We’ll try to win the Champions League, but we know as always that it’s a difficult competition. Juventus are up there, but other teams are also built to win: Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City.

‘Only one of them can achieve it and I hope it’s Juventus. However, the Champions League is not an obsession. I am calm because I see how we are working every day and I know Juve will win it. If it’s not this year, then it’ll be the next.’

Champions League: Nine games, six goals, two assists

It is questionable whether last season was the best of Ronaldo’s career.

In the 2016-17 campaign, for instance, he scored 42 goals, with Real Madrid winning La Liga and the Champions League, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

In 2007-08 Ronaldo also mustered 42 goals for Manchester United, who won the Premier League and the Champions League.

The 2015-16 season, when he won the Champions League with Real prior to helping Portugal win Euro 2016, is surely another highlight of Ronaldo’s career.

As an individual, one of Ronaldo’s best seasons was in 2014-15, when he, remarkably, scored 61 goals in 54 games for Real across all competitions. He was also superb for Real in 2011-12 as he scored 60 times.
