Justin Verlander will play in his 20th MLB season for the San Francisco Giants after signing a one-year, $15 million contract on Tuesday.
The two-time World Series champion and nine-time All-Star was a free agent after leaving the Houston Astros and has now landed on the West Coast.
News of his arrival in San Francisco was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who revealed that the pitcher, who turns 42 next month, reached a deal on Tuesday.
According to the report, the deal is pending a physical and will see Verlander play for the fourth different team in his 20-year career in the major leagues.
There was some speculation about whether Verlander would end his storied career this winter, but he will step on the mound for another year.
He made his MLB debut in July 2005 for the Detroit Tigers, played for the franchise for twelve years and was named American League MVP in 2011.
