Justin Trudeau broke cover four days after announcing his shock separation from his wife, as he and his teenage son Xavier went to see the Barbie movie in pink outfits.
The Canadian Prime Minister, 51, posted the photo on Instagram and Twitter just days after announcing his separation from Xavier’s mother, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
The couple have been married for more than 18 years and share three children together – their eldest Xavier, 15, as well as younger siblings Ella-Grace, 14, and Hadrien, nine.
The Liberal Party leader rarely shares photos of his children, with the post offering insight into his close father-son bond with his eldest.
In the post, Trudeau and his lookalike son are seen beaming at a poster of Barbie at the movies, with the Canadian prime minister donning a neon hoodie for their movie night while Xavier wore a fuchsia t-shirt.

The photo was captioned ‘We’re Team Barbie’, in an apparent reference to the ‘Barbenheimer’ trend – with Barbie and Oppenheimer blockbusters releasing on the same day and battling it out at box offices around the world.
Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the famous doll and has just surpassed the billion dollar mark, making its director, Greta Gerwig, the first solo female director to do so.
The main themes of the film include patriarchy and toxic masculinity – something Grégoire has been outspoken about when it comes to raising his sons.
She said Narcity in March: “I think that if we don’t talk about toxic masculinity, the principles and the cultures that our boys live in, we won’t be able to address the real root causes of the problem that girls and women face in our Company.’
Now that she and Trudeau have announced their separation, the couple have said they will remain close family and continue to share parenting responsibilities.
In a statement released Wednesday in English and French, Trudeau wrote: “Hello everyone, Sophie and I would like to share that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to go our separate ways.

“As always, we remain a close family with a deep love and respect for each other and for all that we have built and will continue to build,” he continued.
“For the well-being of our children, we ask that you respect our and their privacy. THANKS.’
Trudeau’s office also released a statement confirming that they have reached a legal settlement and that the couple will remain amicable, soon vacationing with their three children.
Sophie left the family home for another residence in Ottawa, a spokesperson said.
“They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps regarding their decision to separate have been taken and will continue to do so in the future.

Trudeau will stay at Rideau Cottage with the children, but Sophie has already moved to another property in Ottawa.
She will frequent Rideau Cottage to be with the children and will stay there whenever Trudeau travels.
“They remain a close family and Sophie and the Prime Minister are focused on raising their children in a safe, loving and collaborative environment.
“The family will be together on vacation starting next week,” a statement read.
Xavier was born on October 18, 2007 and has the same birthday as his late grandfather, Pierre Trudeau.
Shortly after, Trudeau and Grégoire welcomed their daughter, Ella-Grace, on February 5, 2009.
Five years later, on February 28, 2014, the couple gave birth to their third and last child, Hadrian.
