Justin Langer DENIES ‘utter rubbish’ claims that he is at war with Pat Cummins
Justin Langer DENIES ‘utter nonsense’ claims he is at war with Pat Cummins after his explosive claim he was betrayed by ‘cowards’ at Cricket Australia: ‘I have so much respect for Pat’
Justin Langer has clarified he is not offended by Pat Cummins amid suggestions he is at ‘war’ with the Australian cricket captain, insisting he has ‘so much respect’ for the fast bowler.
Langer claimed this week that he had been betrayed by ‘cowards’ who leaked information against him during his final months as leader of the Australian team before being surprisingly sacked.
He lifted the lid on his relationship with captain Cummins and opened up his frustrations with feedback from the media rather than his players.
Justin Langer has dismissed rumors that he is at war with Australian captain Pat Cummins
But he has moved to deny claims of a rift between himself and his former star man.
Ironically I spoke to Patty on Monday, we had a long talk about how the team is going, how he is going, how his family is going. And some of this nonsense is complete and utter nonsense,” he told Channel 7 News Perth.
“I have so much respect for Patty Cummins, I think he’s a brilliant player, I think he’s an excellent human being. So any thought that there is war between Patty and me couldn’t be further from the truth.
“There was sort of a conversation about associating the word coward with Pat Cummins. If you listen to the podcast, I actually praised Pat, I praised Finchy, I praised Tim Paine for providing feedback. I actually complimented them, not criticizing them as it has come out. It’s turning into a forest fire, what are you doing?’
In his interview with the Backchat podcast, Langer claimed that he had the support of most of the players at the time of his firing.
Langer was unimpressed with Cummins’ communication skills during his time as head coach
However, he says he has ‘so much respect’ for the fast bowler and denied rumors of a split
“Everyone was nice to my face, but I read about this stuff,” Langer said.
‘Many journalists use the word ‘source’. I’d say change that word to “coward.”
‘Cause what do you mean a source says?
“Either they have an ax to grind with someone and they won’t come and say it to your face, or they’re just leaking stuff for their own agenda.”
Referring to his relationship with Cummins, Langer initially said, “I’ve been talking to Pat Cummins. He said to me about five times, “This might be brutally honest.” I said, “Pat, there’s nothing rude about your feedback. What’s rude is that I’m hearing it behind my back through the media or sources. No one is telling me. Tell me.”
