REVEALED: Jurgen Klopp was offered a chance to QUIT Liverpool and return to Borussia Dortmund last year… but told his old boss: ‘Are you stupid? Have you been drinking?! I’ve got a few more years’
Jurgen Klopp rejected the offer to quit Liverpool just last year and return to his old job at Borussia Dortmund.
But the German club’s CEO admits that scenario was always unlikely in his new book ‘Real Love – A life with Borussia Dortmund’.
Dortmund were struggling after a difficult campaign saw Peter Bosz sacked before temporary boss Peter Stoger attained a fourth place finish.

Lucien Favre took the reins in the summer of 20i18 but before that, Hans-Joachim Watzke attempted to persuade Klopp to make a sensational return.
‘I knew Jurgen would fulfill his contract until the end,’ Watzke writes in the book, serialised by Bild. ‘Jurgen has always fulfilled his contracts.
‘But I wanted a new path at BVB and I at least had to ask Jurgen to consider.’
Klopp, who had just taken Liverpool to the Champions League final, was mid-flight when he took the call from Watzke.
‘My phone rang while I was on the plane Aki was on it: ‘Jurgen, you have to come back’ reveals Klopp. ‘I thought he was kidding,
‘Are you stupid, have you been drinking, how did you get the idea, I’ve got a few more years in Liverpool.’
However Watzke admits: ‘I would not have forgiven myself for not asking him at that moment.’
Klopp spent seven years in charge of Dortmund before leaving in 2015. He moved to Anfield just five months later.
