A video of a delighted Jurgen Klopp giving Harvey Elliott a bear hug on his return to training in Liverpool has gone viral.

The 18-year-old impressed in the early stages of the season, but then dislocated his ankle in Liverpool’s 3-0 win in September.

However, just four months after sustaining the injury, the Reds youngster returned to first-team training earlier than expected.

However, no one seemed happier to see Elliott back with the group at the AXA Training Center in Kirby than German boss Klopp.

A video has emerged of Klopp approaching Elliott as the squad chased the training pitch, before squatting slightly and hugging the midfielder.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss then lifts Elliott up, puts an arm around him and pats him on the back as they, too, make their way to training.

Klopp’s number 2 Pep Lijnders revealed earlier this week that the youngster, who scored goals in training and shared a joke with Virgil Van Dijk, will resume that key role at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield once he is fully fit again.

“He didn’t lose his football brain in his absence,” the Reds assistant manager said. “Yesterday it would be a crime not to play him if you see him in training.

“Some players don’t knock on the door, they run through it and Harvey is like that in every session. He’s coming back from a long-term injury so it’s important that he’s fit for the team, that he prepares well, but it’s great to have him back.

“You saw in the first games of the season how he influenced our style. We’re glad he’s back with us and doing all the things we normally do.

“We like the players who have goals in them, not just dribbling or technique, but always looking for the last pass. He has a lot of influence on our game.’
