Jurassic World: Dominion director Colin Trevorrow has teased new details about the upcoming dinosaur sequel, set just one year before its release.
The film — which was set to premiere this week until the COVID-19 pandemic delayed production by months — is still steeped in mystery, regarding its precise plot.
But the director, who was responsible for rebooting the Jurassic Park franchise with the fourth film Jurassic World in 2015, has now teased how the story will work structurally.

He also revealed, in conversation with Collider, how long the movie will be, and that he’s already shown some of it to friends and Jurassic Park super fans, to get their feedback.
“I know how long it is now, and it is no longer than…” [150 minutes],” he said, explaining that he screened a refined version of the film to “deep Jurassic Park fans, folks who swear by it and love it, and then see how they feel.’
The film combines Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.
Following on from the 1993 original, Neill and Dern appeared together in Jurassic Park III, while Goldblum starred in the first sequel, The Lost World, and made a cameo in the fifth film, Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom.
“It all started here!” On Wednesday, the film’s latest poster was unveiled, and it was announced that an expanded preview of Jurassic World: Dominion will be shown exclusively before each IMAX screening of the upcoming action movie F9, starting June 25.
Dominion – the sixth film overall – reunites the original trio for the first time and introduces them to the characters of Pratt and Dallas Howard.
Trevorrow explained: “[The film follows] two sets of characters… telling two parallel stories that get closer and closer together, and you understand that, and you begin to understand how they’re going to intersect, and then they do.
“But that’s not a traditional way to structure a film. Laura, Sam and Jeff play as big a part in the movie as Chris and Bryce do, in terms of screen time, their importance to the story, everything.”
This reaffirms what has been said before – that the legacy stars are not cameos.
Newcomers: An image of two dinosaurs, never seen before in a Jurassic Park/World movie, was also teased – a Morus intrepidus and Giganotosaurus
Fans were a little disappointed when Goldblum’s screen time in Fallen Kingdom turned out to be just a few minutes.
Similarly, in 2001’s Jurassic Park III, Dern was only seen briefly, at the beginning and end.
On Wednesday, the latest poster of the film was unveiled, along with an image of two dinosaurs, never before seen in a Jurassic Park/World movie.
Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have announced that an expanded preview of Jurassic World: Dominion will be screened exclusively before each IMAX screening of the upcoming action movie F9, starting June 25.
Stars: Chris Pratt and Omar Sy are pictured on set with director Trevorrow
Two brand new dinosaurs – Morus intrepidus and Giganotosaurus – are featured in a released still from the preview, with a mosquito depicted on the new poster sucking the blood of an unknown species.
The slogan ‘It All Started Here…’ is at the top of the poster.
This is a nod to the science used in the movies to save dinosaurs from extinction.
As explained to Dern, Neill and Goldblum’s characters in Jurassic Park, prehistoric blood-sucking mosquitoes were used for DNA extraction after they were found in petrified tree sap.
Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to release on June 11, 2022.
