Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore smiled and laughed on the New York set of their first movie together, The Room Next Door, on Monday.
It is the first English-language feature film from two-time Oscar winner Pedro Almodóvar, who previously directed 22 Spanish-language feature films over the course of his illustrious 44-year career.
The Oscar-winning actresses, both 63, play best friends Martha, a war correspondent, and Ingrid, an author, in the film, which began production on March 3 in Madrid.
Tilda (born Katherine) was born in Britain and has Scottish heritage dating back to the 9th century, while Julianne (born Julie Anne Smith) was born in North Carolina and her late mother Anne was a British psychologist originally from Greenock, Scotland.
Swinton slipped her slim 5-foot-11 frame into a green turtleneck, blue wide-leg jeans, brown loafers and a black winter coat selected by costume designer Bina Daigeler.

Moore carried an orange purse and wore a classic khaki trench coat over a colorful printed top, dark rinse denim, and black high-heeled ankle boots.
The Troublemaker actress previously starred in the 74-year-old author’s 2020 short film, The Human Voice, and gushed that they “really love each other.”

Swinton continued: “It’s a beautiful thing and I can’t say much more about it, but I can tell you that it’s a real Almodóvar film. What I can tell you is that it’s about a mature friendship in a way… It’s about friendships. mature and how they support us and why we need them at this stage of our lives. So it’s going to have a lot of meat.
The Room Next Door, also starring John Turturro and Alessandro Nivola, has already received a North American distribution deal with Sony Pictures Classics.
On a personal level, The Killer actress was the mother of 26-year-old twins, Honor and Xavier, from her 15-year relationship with the late Scottish playwright John Byrne, who died, aged 83, on November 30.
Tilda met German-Kiwi painter Sandro Kopp in 2004 on the set of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and they are still going strong despite their 18-year age difference.
Meanwhile, the Mary & George star producer has two adult children: son Caleb, 26; and her daughter Liv, 22, from her 20-year marriage to her second husband, Bart Freundlich, whom she originally met on the set of her 1997 film, The Fingerprint Myth.
