Julian Edelman believes ex-Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker made up stories about Bill Belichick on the ‘Dynasty’ documentary: ‘We know you don’t like him’

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman accused his former teammate Wes Welker of making up stories about his time with Bill Belichick.

In the latest episodes of Edelman’s ‘Games with Names’ podcast, the 37-year-old discussed the Apple TV+ documentary ‘The Dynasty: New England Patriots’ alongside fellow Patriot and future Hall of Fame special teamer , Matthew Slater.

The discussion centered on the documentary’s portrayal of former tight end Aaron Hernandez, and Edelman alleged that Welker lied about the coach’s relationship with the player who would later be convicted of murder.

Welker is here saying that Aaron Hernandez got his way (figuratively) in practice; that’s not even true,’ Edelman said.

‘Welker painted the picture that he (Hernández) was like the king, like he had to do anything.

‘I remember Bill, son of a bitch Aaron, all the time. Come on, Welk. Trying to make up stories. We know you don’t like Bill.

In the documentary, Welker was quoted as saying, “I remember thinking, ‘Why does he (Belichick) love this guy?'” I don’t understand.

‘I don’t understand. But when you have that much talent, a lot of people put up with a lot of things.

Slater, a ten-time Pro-Bowler on special teams, did not comment on the relationship between Welker and the now-unemployed coach.

“Wes, I’m not even saying anything, man, I’m just drinking my water,” Slater said, to which Edelman responded, “I love him too, but he clearly hates Bill.”

Edelman and Slater were Welker’s teammates for four seasons before Welker signed with the Denver Broncos in free agency before the start of the 2013 season.

Welker is now the wide receivers coach for the Patriots’ divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins.

Hernandez would later be convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2015. In 2017, Hernandez was found dead by suicide in his prison cell at age 27.

Some believe the documentary has portrayed Belichick in a negative light, prompting Slater to defend his former coach.

When asked what he thought of the documentary, Slater told Edelman: “I haven’t seen it.” He continued: ‘This is interesting, this ‘Dynasty’… I’m not sure how I feel about it all.

“I know there were some comments I made there that made it seem like Bill was a demanding presence, and he was, but I also want people to see that Bill has multiple sides and it’s difficult because I feel like he’s being portrayed in a certain light.

‘We’re painting a picture, but we’re only showing people part of it. With coaching, it’s very complex and there are things that were difficult and I’m sure we can all feel, “Hey, maybe we wish we had done things this way,” but let’s make sure that none of us forget the fact that the dynasty You don’t even talk about it without Bill Belichick and the things he did were with intentionality and purpose.’

Edelman has criticized the docuseries, as have other former Patriots players Devin McCourty and Rodney Harrison.

Even Patriots owner Robert Kraft admitted he was “a little disappointed” with the project.
