A big change is coming to popular chewing gum products in Australia.

An insider told 2GB’s Ben Fordham, gum maker Wrigley’s is removing the sugar shell coating from gum products, including Juicy Fruit and PK.

The change addresses changing consumer preferences towards sugar-free options.

Wrigley’s ‘soft’ chewing gum, without the hard sugar shell, is already available on several of its products – including from the Extra line.

Juicy Fruit was first introduced in 1893, making it one of the oldest chewing gum brands still available today.

The flavor of Juicy Fruit chewing gum is often described as a combination of sweet and fruity notes, with hints of banana, pineapple and other tropical fruits.

The specific combination of ingredients remains a closely guarded secret of the Wrigley Company.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Mars Inc. for a comment.
