Juan Soto has denied widespread reports that the New York Yankees’ mistreatment of his family influenced his decision to leave the team.
Soto traded the Yankees for the New York Mets in one of the biggest deals in sports history: a 15-year, $765 million contract.
A reported complaint Soto had with the Yankees was that a staff member once removed his chef and a member of his family from an area of Yankee Stadium.
Those claims were made to Soto in a new interview with Greats in Sports, and the new Mets man had a defiant response.
“That’s a lie,” Soto said, before apparently describing the Yankees as a ‘1A’ organization.
He also revealed that he asked the Mets for permission to play 10 games for the Tigres del Licey in winter ball, which was approved, but he will not appear this season.
