The Spaniard’s playing time has been limited since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January, leaving only two Premier League starts since the turn of the year.
Mata started on the right side of midfield during the FA Cup quarter-final win over Norwich, but Solskjaer preferred to flank Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford during the 5-2 win over Bournemouth.
The former Valencian man has made a total of 20 starts this season, but 12 of them have entered cup tournaments and Fernandes and Pogba’s development partnership can limit Mata’s involvement in the remaining matches.
Nevertheless, Mata is under contract until June 2021, and United has the option to extend the deal for an additional year, meaning Fenerbahce would have to pay a fee.
Mata has played 252 games since he signed for Chelsea for United in a £ 37.1 million transfer, resulting in 48 goals and 42 assists in six and a half seasons.
