Josh Brolin has revealed that he is so addicted to nicotine patches that he even puts them on when he sleeps.
The 56-year-old actor, who had already spoken openly about his struggle with alcohol addiction, used to chew tobacco and take nicotine lozenges, but now he cannot do without the patches, even when he sleeps.
He said on Thursday’s episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast: “I have a bag on my lip and I’m not lying, 24 hours a day.” Then I started taking them out and putting them on the nightstand.
The star, who is married to his third wife Kathryn, 36, said his partner noticed he had a patch when he was sleeping soundly.
He said: ‘My wife heard this in the middle of the night. I don’t even know what I’m doing, I’m asleep.’

The father-of-four added: ‘My daughter would get it at 2 years old, which is actually…maybe there’s no nicotine, maybe there’s no danger, but if she puts it in her mouth, she’ll get sick.
“And instead of stopping, I try to teach them, ‘Don’t do that. Dad needs it.'”
Speaking about his use of nicotine lozenges, he said: ‘They’re gone in two seconds, but they taste like gasoline and have a strong impact. But I used to keep them between my gum and teeth line.
‘I have seven cavities. That’s why I switched to (bags). There’s a ton of sugar (in pills).’
The Men In Black III star revealed he was once so desperate for nicotine when he was filming in Jordan that he ended up taking a huge dose after a local shopkeeper offered it to him.
He said, “We’re in Jordan, and he comes up to me and says, ‘I’ve got some,’ and it’s got a skull and crossbones on the top, and they’re 40-milligram packets. And I said, ‘I can’t do that.’
“I put the thing in my mouth for nothing else, and I swear to God for my kids, for no more than 20 seconds, and I had to cancel dinner that night,” adding that he became very sick.
Boyd initially worked as Brolin’s assistant over a decade ago, but things would finally turn romantic between the two in March 2013.

Brolin is also the father of two adult children: daughter Eden, 29, and son Trevor, 35, from his first marriage to actress Alice Adair.
He was married to actress Diane Lane from 2004 to 2013.
