Jose Mourinho was hailed for a ‘masterclass’ when his Tottenham Hotspur side sawed his longtime rival Pep Guardiola and Manchester City in the spotlight.
Spurs climbed to the top of the Premier League rankings – at least until Leicester City left for Liverpool on Sunday evening – as experts scoured a ‘classic Mourinho appearance’.
While seeing only 34 percent of the ball, Mourinho’s side defended decisively and were able to penalize City on the counting attack, with Son Heung-min and Giovani Lo Celso scoring their only two shots on target.

Mourinho was able to get one over his old rival Pep Guardiola with Man City second
And Mourinho appeared to be a tactical genius when Lo Celso scored just 35 seconds after entering as a substitute.
It was the perfect way for Mourinho to celebrate his first birthday as a Tottenham boss and he garnered a lot of praise since then.
“Spurs have had some great teams over the years, seen great footballers, beautiful footballers, but they have won nothing,” Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
If Spurs fans have to watch that style to win trophies, they will take it.
Mauricio Pochettino has built a great team – what have they won? Zero.
Son Heung-Min broke away from the city’s defenses to reach the first goal after five minutes
The South Korean’s early goal was the perfect start for Tottenham in such an important game
I wasn’t sure Jose Mourinho could do it at Spurs, but he makes players work so hard. It’s incredible how hard Harry Kane and Son Heung-min work without the ball.
“Spurs did so well without the ball – it was a masterclass from Jose and the team.”
It was a fourth straight win for Spurs since they blew a three-goal lead to play a 3-3 draw against West Ham on Oct. 18.
Since then, they have all beaten Burnley, Brighton and West Bromwich Albion with one goal as they showed those classic Mourinho traits of wins.
The visit to City has always been seen as the true litmus test of how far the Spurs have progressed under Mourinho and they took up the challenge.

Gary Neville, who also spoke on Sky Sports, stopped tipping Tottenham for the title, but was nevertheless impressed with their performance.
‘I had my doubts a few weeks ago [they could win the title] and I’m not going to change that, ”Neville said.
‘But they are definitely gaining confidence and this was a really good performance.
‘In the first half it was resilient and the Mourinho of yesteryear. In the second half they were simply better than City. ‘
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville described the win as a ‘classic Jose Mourinho feat’
Kane didn’t find the net on this occasion, but played an important role in both his team’s goals, reflecting the play of his all-round forward.
He dropped to pull the center halves of the city out of position, giving Son the space needed to win Spurs’ early opener.
“Kane plays with them, he’s been spectacular,” Neville said during the commentary. Kane has both center-backs where he wants them. He plays with them. ‘
The England striker then turned and laid on the pass that released Lo Celso to score their second.
Jamie Redknapp also praised Spurs’ performance as an enhancement to their title chances
A wonderful touch and twist from Kane. This is a classic version of Jose Mourinho. Brilliant for Spurs, nightmare for City, ”Neville added.
City also lost at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in February with the same score and they had 41 shots on target over the two defeats without scoring.
But having passed a test of Tottenham’s title here, Mourinho is now facing another, with a visit to his former club Chelsea lurking on Saturday for a North London derby with Arsenal on December 5.
