Jose Mourinho has claimed he was not approached by the Football Association to accept the England manager’s job before appointing Thomas Tuchel.

The Fenerbahçe coach has long been mentioned as a hypothetical option for the Three Lions due to his success in the Premier League, which he has won three times with Chelsea.

In fact, he revealed earlier this year that he was approached by the FA to take on the role in 2007 but turned it down before Fabio Capello was appointed.

But asked about Sky Sports News If this time there was any contact, his response was forceful: ‘Zero’.

And he added: ‘Not today (I wouldn’t be interested). I still have too much energy to play one game a month, I need to play games.

“I think it’s something I would like to do (in the future), have experience playing in a World Cup, a European Championship.

‘To represent the country, my country or a country that I feel connected to. One day I feel it will come, but not now.’

Mourinho joined Fenerbahce in June and is determined to see out his two-year contract with the Turkish giants.

‘London is my home, so one day I have to return, unless no one wants me. But one day I would like to go back,” he told Sky Sports News.

“But don’t get me wrong, let’s make it very clear: for the next two years, this season and the next, no one will take me away from Fenerbahce.”

Mourinho has had a mixed start to life in Istanbul. Although Fener is third in the Turkish Super League with 20 points after nine games, which is no tragedy, it is already eight points behind league leader Galatasaray.

Furthermore, expectations are high after they scored 99 points last season and only lost one game on their way to finishing second, even beating Galatasaray 1-0 in recent weeks but falling short under former boss Ismail Kartal.

They have not won the Turkish title since 2013-14 and with Mourinho in a deal worth around £10.2m, the pressure is mounting.

The Portuguese strategist was accused last week by the Turkish press of creating a negative atmosphere in the Fenerbahce locker room.

Former Fenerbahce goalkeeper Volkan Demirel said it Fanatic that “this Fenerbahçe team is mixed with unhappiness and hopelessness.”

‘Why the unhappiness? Because of the environment in which they are found. Why the hopelessness? We were all waiting for something. We expected it from Mourinho, we expected it from the transfers that were made,” Demirel added.

“We were saying that we will see after the international break, but nothing has changed at the moment, but obviously it will continue like this.

‘We waited to see if we could see a change, a variability, but it didn’t happen. We have not seen any changes in the game designs of the games played home and away. Or if they lead 2-1, will Fenerbahce play with a seven-man defense? A big question mark.
