Jose Manalo has revealed that Buboy Villar, one of the hosts of the new ‘Eat Bulaga’, was in tears when he contacted the former to apologize for hosting the midday show.
Manalo recalled the conversation he had with Villar, during an ambush interview during the “TVJ and DAARKADS Media Day” held last Tuesday, June 20. This was after entertainment journalist Dondon Sermino asked Manalo what his reaction would be if and when he came across new hosts ‘Eat Bulaga’.
“Wala, iko-congrats ko lang sila. Good job kasi may trabaho sila,” Manalo replied. (None. I just wanted to congratulate them. It’s good for them that they have a job.)
“If Buboy, the night before living was like. Umiiyak talaga. [Sabi niya], ‘Kuya Jose, sorry’,” he continued. (The day before [new “Eat Bulaga”] went live, Buboy called me and he was crying. He said, “Kuya Jose, I’m sorry. “)
Manalo has opened up about his relationship with Villar, saying they date back to when the latter was younger and followed Manalo on his shows.
“Alaga rin naman natin si Buboy. Wala namang problema,” the TV host noted. (Buboy is my friend. I have nothing against him.)
Manalo also touched on the comparison between the original ‘Eat Bulaga’ mainstays and the new hosts, which has been discussed among fans.
“Let the idea of sarili silang (hosts), let sarili silang take so respetuhin na lang natin ‘yon. Syempre iba ‘yung atake namin sa atake nila, so hindi pwedeng magkapareho halos talaga,” he said.
(They have their own idea and approach [in hosting] so respect that. Our approach is different from theirs [and] we can’t be quite alike [when it comes to hosting].)
Manalo went on to emphasize that he did not encourage hatred against the show’s hosts, noting that he had been through the same situation as them as well.
“Nanggaling din naman ako sa gano’n e. Nag-umpisa rin ako, so ‘wag natin idiin ‘yung mga taong nag-uumpisa,” he told Sermino. “Sabi ko nga, pag ‘di ka lumingon sa pinanggalingan mo, hindi ka makakarating [sa paroroonan mo].”
(I had also been in the same situation. I was also a newbie, so let’s not make it difficult for them. Like I said, if you don’t look back at where you’ve been, you won’t make it. to your destination.)

During the interview, Manalo was also asked about his feelings regarding the GMA Network being indifferent to the issue between the original “Eat Bulaga” mainstays and production company TAPE.
“Merong Konting [feeling na hindi kami pinaglaban ng GMA] pero nando’n tayo isip na siguro nga blocktimer kami kaya lumalagay lang sila sa gitna… ‘Yun lang tingin ko ha pero hindi ako sure as mga nangyari,” he said.
(I had kind of felt that GMA wasn’t fighting for us, but I always thought maybe, we were just a blocktimer, so the network had to be neutral. That’s what I I thought but I don’t really know what happened.)
Manalo then revealed that TAPE still owes him a fairly small sum in talent fees, but the TV host said he was no longer asking to be paid.
“Meron sigurong [utang], maliit lang pero OK na siguro para wala na lang usapan,” he said. “OK lang tutal do’n naman ako nagtrabaho nang matagal.”
([TAPE] owes me a small amount but [I am OK not getting paid] so that we can already end the discussion. It suits me since I worked there a long time.) /ra
