Jordin Sparks isn’t optimistic about her chances of replacing Katy Perry as a judge on American Idol, but she’s still open to the opportunity.

The 34-year-old singer, who won the sixth season of American Idol in 2007, spoke candidly about the opportunity following the departure of Perry, 39, after season 22.

“I’m sure they’ve already picked someone else, but I thought it would make sense,” she said of her involvement on the judging panel during an interview with TMZ on Friday.

She continued: “I’m someone who’s done it, I’ve been there, I love the show obviously and I also love mentoring people who are coming up in the industry. It would have been great.”

Asked if she would be a “mean judge,” Jordin replied with a smile: “No! You can’t even ask that, you know I’m not going to be mean.”

“But I’ll be honest, no one gets help if you don’t tell them the truth. So I’ll be honest, but also kind.”

Although ABC has yet to announce Katy’s replacement, numerous celebrities have expressed interest in joining the judging table, including Jelly Roll and Meghan Trainor.

There could be multiple vacancies at the judges’ table for season 23, as Luke Bryan revealed to Billboard on June that both his and Lionel Richie’s position on the show is uncertain.

Meanwhile, Katy is reportedly blaming others for the lackluster performance of her comeback single, Woman’s World, and is urgently looking for a new strategy to salvage her musical comeback.

The singer released the lead single from her upcoming album 143 last Thursday, but the empowering anthem was quickly criticized for being unoriginal and formulaic.

The single is reportedly rapidly falling down the US iTunes chart less than a week after its July 11 release and Katy is panicking and insisting her team revamp their strategy to prevent her album from suffering a similar fate.

“Katy is very nervous at the moment because she is very aware of the reactions Woman’s World is receiving,” a source told DailyMail.com exclusively. “She is pointing the finger at everyone but herself, but it is her own fault.”

The source said Katy’s biggest gamble was meeting with Dr. Luke, the producer behind her hits like I Kissed a Girl and California Gurls, who has faced allegations of sexual, physical and emotional abuse by Kesha.

Dr. Luke has denied all allegations, including Kesha’s claim that he raped Katy, a claim Katy herself dismissed.

In 2020, a New York state judge ruled against Kesha, finding that her allegations had defamed Dr. Luke, and the decision was upheld by an appeals court in 2021.

Despite the deal reached between Kesha and Dr. Luke in 2023, many music fans remain critical of artists who collaborate with him.

After DailyMail.com previously revealed that Katy had been warned not to collaborate with Dr. Luke for the new album, the source confirmed that the Roar singer had ignored the pleas.

“She was crazy to think Dr. Luke was a good idea. She didn’t listen to anyone,” the source said.

“Instead of diving deep and creating art, she posted something that sounded like it could have been on one of her albums from 2010.”
