Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new long-term contract with the Reds.
At the start of the summer, reports claimed the 31-year-old was frustrated that a new contract could not be agreed, but the midfielder has now signed a new three-year deal with the club, with an option for a fourth.
Henderson joined Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold to commit to the Anfield club this summer through new long-term contracts.

“I am of course very honored and proud to continue the journey I have already made here,” the Liverpool captain told the club’s official website. “It’s great to finally get it done and just focus on looking ahead and what the future may hold.
“Obviously I’m in a different place, as a player and as a person, from the moment I first came in. I have learned and grown a lot in my time here, and I have a lot of people to thank for that.
“I loved every minute of it, even when I look back on the hard times, I still enjoyed being part of this football club. The longer I can do that, the better for me actually. I want to stay here as long as possible, I’ve always said that.

“Continuing this journey is incredible for me and my family, and I hope the fans and the club feel the same way.”
According to reports, the option of a fourth year in Henderson’s new contract with Liverpool will depend on how many appearances he makes to that point.
The midfielder has become the beating heart of the Liverpool squad for the past decade, leading them to their first-ever Premier League title in 2020, after taking over the armband from club legend Steven Gerrard in 2015.
Henderson also helped Liverpool achieve their sixth Champions League title in 2019
He won the Football Writers’ Player of the Year Award the year Liverpool won the title and was also voted the Reds’ Player of the Season that year. Henderson also led Jurgen Klopp’s side to a sixth Champions League trophy in 2019.
His extension would be the latest in a long string of extensions signed by first-team Reds stars. Defender Alexander-Arnold was the first to sign a new contract by signing a four-year extension at the end of July, and the England right-back’s commitment was quickly followed days later by a contract for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.
Goalkeeper Alisson also signed a new contract in the first week of July, while Van Dijk also signed on the dotted line. There was also a new contract for Harvey Elliott, who broke through in the Liverpool first team at the beginning of this season.

Scottish defender Robertson signed new terms until 2026 last week, but sporting director Michael Edwards – who is behind most of these contract extensions – is reported to be leaving at the end of this season.
Liverpool boss Klopp confirmed the club is in talks to extend star winger Mohamed Salah’s contract, making him the highest paid player in club history.
“Mo is clearly in a very, very good moment, in terms of atmosphere, in terms of mood,” Klopp said last week. “How he behaves from the first day he came back has been absolutely amazing.
“So we’re all adults, we’re all professionals. There are talks and there are more talks and when there is a final decision we will tell you. Until then, it is only important how the parties work together in this regard.’
