Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Collin Gosselin has criticized his mother, reality star Kate Gosselin, for “taking her anger and frustration out on him” as a child, as his sister Hannah Gosselin recalled how it was singled out and punished by their parents. – and even forced to have dinner at separate times than the rest of the family.
Collin and Hannah, both now 19, found themselves in the spotlight at a young age thanks to the TLC reality show, which followed parents Kate and Jon Gosselin as they raised their eight young children.
Now, the brothers have opened up about some of the things Collin had to endure in secret while growing up in the famous family, as part of the upcoming Vice TV series Dark Side of the 2000s.
In a sneak peek of the new show, which will premiere on July 18, Hannah explained that Collin was often “cut off” from the rest of the kids due to his “bad behavior.”

His sister Hannah Gosselin also recalled how his parents singled him out and punished him, even forcing him to eat dinner at separate times from the rest of the family.
Collin and Hannah, both now 19, found themselves in the spotlight at a young age thanks to the show TLC, which followed parents Kate and Jon Gosselin as they navigated raising eight children.
Now, the brothers have opened up about some of the things Collin had to endure in secret growing up in the famous family, as part of the 2000s Vice TV series The Dark Side.
She remembered that she wasn’t allowed to play outside with them, or even join them for meals most of the time.
‘He would be separated from us, like he couldn’t come and play outside with us. He ate dinner at different times than we did,” she said.
Collin admitted that he was not a “perfect kid”, but insisted that his “bad behavior was no different from his brothers”.
Hannah added: “I don’t think any effort was made at home to help him learn what behavior is acceptable and what behavior is not acceptable.”
Jon & Kate Plus 8 ran from 2007 to 2010, before being rebranded as Kate Plus 8 following Kate and Jon’s divorce in 2009. That version ran for six more seasons, before ending in July 2017.
While chatting with Vice TV, Collin criticized his mother for “taking out” some of the pain she felt on him in the midst of his split from Jon.
“I know my mom was going through a lot, I mean, a divorce and a lot of different things that can’t be easy to go through,” she continued.
I like to think that he needed someone to take out his anger and frustration on. She was nice of me, you know? I was in the way, and I was there, so she chose me.’
Hannah said that Collin was often “separated” from the other children and recalled that he was not allowed to play outside with them or join them for meals. The family is seen eating on the show.
Collin admitted that he was not a “perfect kid”, but insisted that his “bad behavior was no different from his brothers”.
Jon currently has full custody of Collin and Hannah. His other children, Aaden, Alexis, Joel and Leah, all live with Kate, while Mady and Cara are currently attending college in New York.
Collin previously spoke about his estranged relationship with his mother, which he said first fractured because of the TV show but officially disintegrated after she sent him to boarding school in 2016.
While chatting with Vice TV, Collin theorized that his mother was “taking away” some of the pain she felt with him, especially in the midst of her split from Jon in 2009. The family is seen in 2007.
Kate first revealed to People that she had enrolled him in a program at the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute to help him “learn certain strategies” to navigate his “special needs.”
But while talking to entertainment tonight In November 2022, Collin said that he finally ruined their relationship, saying, “After I was there, I didn’t have a relationship with her.”
Collin added that their problems started much earlier and that starring on the family’s reality show played a big part in their fight.
‘even before [being] there, I don’t think we had much of a relationship and I think that just kept destroying her even more,” he continued.
Jon currently has full custody of Collin and Hannah (seen together last year). His other children, Aaden, Alexis, Joel and Leah, all live with Kate, while Mady and Cara are in college.
Last May, Hannah opened up about her decision to move in with her dad on ET, explaining, “I’ve always been closest to my dad and we’ve always had a good, strong relationship.”
‘It’s a lot, growing up in a very busy household with many children. There really isn’t a one-on-one relationship with your parents,” she added. ‘I felt like my dad gave me that’
“I want to believe it was because of television and what it does for a family to be in the public eye. I think it broke us up.
“It gave us less time to really be together as a family, [and] more time to be in the public eye.’
Months earlier, Hannah opened up about her decision to move in with her dad to Eastern Timeexplaining: ‘I’ve always been closest to my dad and we’ve always had a good strong relationship.
‘It’s a lot, growing up in a very busy household with many children. And there’s not really a one-on-one relationship, to get attention, that you have with your father.
‘I felt like my dad gave me that attention and the feeling that I had a good solid relationship with a father.
“It was a difficult decision to leave my brothers. I did not want to be separated from them or even live in a different home than theirs.
“But I feel like there was a raw deal at my mother’s house and I just wanted to live with my father.”
