One of Ben Affleck’s most infamous roles was that of David Fincher Go girlbut it actually almost went to Jon Hamm.
During Tuesday’s episode of Watch What Happens live with Andy CohenHamm appeared with his Crazy men opponent John Slattery. During one of the show’s segments, the actor answered a question from a fan, who asked if he was initially slated to star as Nick Dunne in the 2014 mystery thriller.
“Yes,” he replied. “I was totally ready for that. It was meant to be me, but we had to film Mr. Draper’s continued adventures.
Hamm’s confirmation comes after a 2015 report from Page six that claimed the actor was not allowed to do Go girl because Crazy men creator Matthew Weiner would not let him get out of his contractual obligations to the series.
Though Hamm didn’t go into detail WWHL about what happened, he did comment that he would have been perfect for the lead role in the movie because the main character is from St. Louis, where he was born.
“Poor Ben, a boy from Boston, had to wear a Cardinals hat,” he joked about Affleck. “He wasn’t very happy about it.”
The Argo actor starred opposite Rosamund Pike in the psychological thriller, which followed a seemingly blissful marriage between Nick (Affleck) and Amy (Pike). But everything is turned upside down when Amy goes missing and Nick becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance. Due to pressure from the police and media, the couple’s happy image soon collapses, leading to questions about who they really are.
Hamm played Don Draper, a talented and mysterious advertising executive at a prestigious New York ad agency in the 1960s, in the hit drama Crazy men. The show ran from 2007 to 2015.
