However, the musical received mixed reviews from critics, while fans took to social media to claim that Lady Gaga, 38, is at risk of losing her acting career.

Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, plays Harley opposite Joaquin’s Joker in the psychological thriller.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “They just wanted Lady Gaga to sing.” The movie had no plot, just vibes. I want my 3 hours #JokerMovie back’;

“This could have been a great romantic musical starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga that people would have really liked, but at no point should it have been a sequel to Joker and used the characters of Harley Quinn and Joker, absolutely no reason to even have it. It will be DC Set.’

Another added: “Joker 2 could have done it all and done so much better than the first but they picked a damn musical just because Lady Gaga was in it.” What a way to kill off what could have been an incredible ‘Joker’ series;

‘The criticisms about the Joker are very bad. Oh my god, Gaga, your acting career is about to end.’; ‘Lady Gaga and all this musical shit were just a terrible idea for the Joker sequel when the first one was a blast.’;

‘It just felt a little lackluster. I felt like I held on as long as I could, but the ending sent me away. “I think being a fan of both Gaga and the joker character made me interested, but overall it bothered me.”

Meanwhile, The Guardian claimed that the much-hyped Gotham sequel was “claustrophobic” and “repetitive.”

While the Daily Mail called the sequel “bold” and “brilliant but boldly different in style from the original.”

The mixed reviews come after Gaga showed off her eclectic fashion sense on Monday while channeling her character Harley Quinn at the premiere of The Joker: Folie à Deux in Los Angeles.

The entertainer stars in the upcoming project alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, who accompanied her on the red carpet.

The film serves as a follow-up to Phoenix’s 2019 blockbuster, which was simply titled Joker.

Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to criticize the musical, claiming that Lady Gaga’s acting career is “about to end.”

The musical directed by Todd Phillips premiered in theaters on October 4, following its international premiere on October 2.

For Monday night’s appearance in Hollywood at the TCL Chinese Theatre, Gaga turned heads in a black dress with billowing short satin sleeves.

She sported bleached eyebrows and sported a red wig while gracing the red carpet solo.

A month before the sequel’s release date, Joaquín praised Gaga for her “impressive” preparation for the feature film.

During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival where he talked about losing weight for Joker, he added: “Stefani also lost a lot of weight.”

“I remember when I met you at rehearsals and then you were gone for a month and then you came back, you lost a lot of weight.”

He continued: ‘It was really impressive. It seemed very difficult.”

Gaga agreed: “I think we morphed into our characters over a period of time and continued to perfect every kind of detail.”

She plays a music therapist at Arkham Asylum in The Joker and said, “We rehearsed the waltz from the movie for two months, which fell apart.”

Phoenix commented on the musical aspect: “Part of the joy for me was taking standards and finding a way that was specific to the characters.”

‘That was part of what was interesting to us. We started with references like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr and started emulating that sound.’

Joker earned over $1 billion at the global box office and remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

The second installment sees Arthur Fleck institutionalized in Arkham Asylum, awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker.

“While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that has always been inside him,” a press release shared.

The Los Angeles premiere came nearly a week after Gaga announced her album Harlequin, which accompanies the film.

It features a 13-song track list including covers such as That’s Life, Oh, When the Saints and Smile.

Joker: Folie À Deux: What Critics Think

The Daily Mail – Brian Viner

Classification:

“This film is boldly different in style from the original, not as electrifying, but bold and brilliant all the same.”

‘For me, Joker was almost a masterpiece, and while this sequel doesn’t reach those heady heights, it’s still a gripping film about mental illness; It’s not comparable to all-time greats like Psycho (1960) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), but not far off.

Digital Spy – Mireia Mullor

Classification:

“If you loved Joker, you might actually hate Joker: Folie à Deux, a pleasantly unexpected and yet surprisingly tedious sequel to Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck.”

“For all its attempts at genre-bending and innovative storytelling, it feels like an empty, lifeless, and ultimately unnecessary sequel.”

Metro – Tori Brasero

Classification:

Returning to an Oscar-winning role may have been a gamble for star Joaquin Phoenix, but Joker: Folie à Deux was worth the risk as Todd Phillips once again makes the musical great.
