JoJo Siwa is apparently criticizing Nickelodeon for the network’s ‘response’ to her coming out as LGBTQ+, claiming she was asked, ‘What are you going to say to your young demographic?’
- Siwa, 19, implied that he received a rejection from the network for the public disclosure.
- She said she was adamant that she would live her truth regardless of the setback.
- A Nickelodeon spokesperson told Dailymail.com of the alleged incident: “It certainly didn’t happen on Nickelodeon.”
Jojo Siwa apparently hit out at Nickelodeon in a TikTok video this week, in which she claimed that network executives were hostile to her coming out as LGBTQ+.
Video of the 19-year-old cheerleader documented an exchange she had with the president of a company she had been working for, and a Nickelodeon spokesperson denied the exchange took place online.
The video was set to Meghan Trainor’s song Mother, with Siwa lip-syncing and dancing to the upbeat song.
She captioned the clip, ‘Inspired by a true story. (side note if that meeting was today I would literally press play on this song…).
The Omaha, Nebraska native began the clip with the caption “Story Time,” recalling details of the response she received when she came out more than two years ago.
The latest: Jojo Siwa, 19, apparently alluded to the pressure Nickelodeon executives had placed on her after her departure, in a TikTok clip on Wednesday.
The YouTube star said: ‘January 2021: I come out to the world. The company I work for told me that they needed to meet with me as soon as possible.
“During this meeting, the president of the company asked me, ‘What are you going to say to your young demographic?’
The Dance Moms alum said she “took a second to process what I’d just been asked and then replied, ‘The truth.'”
Siwa said he had “never seen a man roll his eyes so far into the back of his head” when reacting to her statement.
Siwa, who has appeared on several shows on the network, said the room was quiet, so she began speaking again, declaring that she was “not going to hide” who she is or loves from people, “especially the next generation”.
However, the executive “didn’t like that very much,” Siwa said in the clip.
She said she has received encouraging words from adults praising her for being a role model for the LGBTQ community, instilling in her that she “did the right thing” and that she would “never let anyone change who they are.”
Several commenters alluded to the children’s network in responses to Siwa’s post.

She told a meeting she was called to after her departure: “The company president asked me, ‘What are you going to say to your young demographic?’

The Dance Moms alum said she “took a second to process what I’d just been asked and then replied, ‘The truth.'”
One user said, “Does the company name rhyme with shmickashmodeon?” while another commented, “Flopalodeon ended.”
Siwa in April 2022 said on social media that she had not been invited to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards despite being nominated for Favorite Social Music Star.
“A lot of you have been asking me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight, and the answer is very simple, I wasn’t invited,” she said on Instagram. “I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t get an invite.”
A Nickelodeon spokesperson told Dailymail.com when asked for comment: “We don’t know which incident or meeting JoJo is referring to, but it certainly didn’t happen on Nickelodeon.”
“We have valued and supported JoJo since day one of our relationship and still do today.”

Siwa took to Instagram last year to reveal that she was not invited to the network’s awards show despite being nominated.

In 2021, he criticized the company in a series of tweets, saying they prevented him from performing the set list he wanted while on tour.

Siwa has appeared on various network shows over the years.
