Diners at celebrity hotspot Le Petit Four were in for a surprise this weekend when they were joined for dinner by music icon and “voice of romance” Johnny Mathis.

The 85-year-old crooner was spotted Saturday night arriving at the popular French bistro on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood for an early dinner with two friends.

Exclusive DailyMail.com photos show the trio sitting at a table in the back corner of the restaurant chatting over their meal and even sharing a decadent crème brûlée dessert.

Mathis’s visit was such a pleasant surprise to the fans at the restaurant, who couldn’t resist taking the opportunity as a casual meet-and-greet with the legendary singer.

“Johnny looks great for his age and is full of energy. He told his friends funny stories while gesturing wildly, making them laugh,” an eyewitness told DailyMail.com.

“People asked the restaurant workers if it was okay to go up to him to say ‘hello’ and the staff would consult with Johnny first. Of course he always obliged!’

The celebrity sighting came over Memorial Day weekend, which saw an increase in restaurant traffic in Los Angeles as many people who had avoided large gatherings due to Covid fears and restrictions now felt comfortable.

Always a magnet for the rich and famous, French eatery Le Petit Four in West Hollywood has struggled during the lockdowns that forced them to do ‘takeaway only’.

“Johnny wasn’t afraid to shake hands, even hug fans who approached him. You could tell he loved the positive attention he got,” the source said.

“When Johnny started courting and being casual with other guests, it felt like everything was finally getting back to normal.”

After dinner, the singer was taken to his Mercedes sedan by his friends and waved to a couple of guards in the parking lot who recognized him on the way.

“Looks good Johnny!” they shouted and got a happy ‘thumbs up’ in response to the singing icon of the 50s and 60s.

Mathis has long been a believer in going to the gym regularly and eating healthy, and it has clearly paid off.

He still plays tennis and golf and was seen wearing a hat with PGA insignia at dinner.

He looked comfortable and casual in a white short-sleeved shirt, white pants, and white and neon green sneakers.

Mathis received the 2003 Grammy’s Lifetime Achievement Award for hits such as “Misty,” “Chances Are,” “The Twelfth of Never,” “It’s Not For Me To Say,” and more.

Born John Royce Mathis in 1935, he became a star athlete at George Washington High School in San Francisco, California.

In 1956, he was even asked to try out for the high jump team for the US Olympics.

That same fateful year, he had to make a choice between athletics and music and happily decided to go to New York City to make his first recordings.

His smooth voice and musical talent soon propelled him to worldwide fame.

The chart has sold an estimated 350 million records worldwide, rivaling Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

The openly gay star has been touring the world for the past 65 years and even has upcoming concert dates — moved from 2021 Covid-19-related cancellations — in Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

In November 2015, DailyMail.com reported on a fire at his Hollywood Hills home that destroyed a significant portion of the estate, along with some personal mementos and his grand piano.

He now lives in a penthouse apartment in Beverly Hills.

At the time of the fire, he told the press that he was glad no one was injured and said, “We can always replace things.”
