Ella Travolta, 24, gave her father a very special gift in honor of what would have been his and his late wife Kelly Preston’s 33rd wedding anniversary: a new song called Little Bird.
“Little Bird” is a song about a beautiful time in my life. “I spent the last two years thinking about what I wanted this song to be, but I wrote it overnight,” the singer-songwriter explained.
“This song is about celebrating life,” she added, completing the post with the date 09.06.24.
Kelly Preston died of breast cancer in July 2020, leaving behind her husband, daughter and youngest son, Benjamin, who turns 14 in November.
The Little Bird video features home videos of the family, including John and Kelly’s oldest son, Jett, who died at age 16 while the family was on vacation in the Bahamas.
The teenager suffered a seizure and hit his head on a bathtub.
In an interview with PeopleThe Poison Rose actress explained that Little Bird was the last song she wrote for the album.
“I grew up in a very public environment, and with that comes a lot of attention, especially when you lose someone,” she said. “There’s definitely a natural support and global backing that comes with it.”
“But then there can be a natural input and an expectation of how you should feel or how people assume you feel or how other people feel, that adds to it,” she explained.

The singer-songwriter called the song, which was the last one she wrote for her new album, Colors of Love, “a celebration of life.”
‘(Little Bird) is about holding on to those pure relationships that you have with the people that you lost and just listening to yourself and staying true to that relationship with that person,’ she explained.
“It’s kind of the point of view of a mother bird talking to a baby bird and not letting any other interference come between them, because her true instincts were there all along.”
“It had been a couple of years, obviously, since my mom passed away, so I was able to look at the whole situation and step back and see what I wanted to communicate and what I wanted to communicate to her and what I was feeling in general,” he said of the songwriting process.
The Little Bird video also includes clips featuring Jett Travolta, who died as a result of a seizure at age 16.
