John Stamos credits his therapist with saving his life and career.
The actor and singer, whose six-year-old son Billy joined him onstage during a Beach Boys concert, opened up about being in therapy at the season two premiere of Hulu’s Unprisoned in New York City on July 16.

Stamos, 60, revealed that he has been seeing acclaimed psychiatrist Phil Stutz, who was featured in the Jonah Hill documentary Stutz, for about two decades.
“When I went to see Stutz one of the first times, he said to me, ‘If you weren’t so stupid you’d realize how good you’ve got it,’ and I said, ‘You’re right,'” he explained.

The actor also convinced his late Full House co-star Bob Saget to try the therapy.
‘I was freaking out (when we first met) and I said, “You have to go to therapy if you want to be my friend,” so he went to see Stutz and Stutz helped him, too.’
Saget died in January 2022 from a head injury in Orlando, Florida.
Stamos said his therapist “tried very hard to help me stop drinking” after his 2015 arrest for driving under the influence.
He entered a treatment facility a month after his arrest, according to his memoir, If You Would Have Told Me.
Stamos, 60, plays Murphy, a new character in Unprisoned.
The comedy stars Kerry Washington as a relationship counselor whose father (Delroy Lindo) is released from prison and moves in with her and her teenage son.
The comedy has a 93 percent rating from critics and a 94 percent rating from viewers. Rotten tomatoes.
