Australian football fans woke up to the explosive revelation that Sam Kerr was facing charges in the UK over allegations of racial abuse against a police officer, but the Matildas captain has been living her best life on social media anyway .

Kerr, 30, pleaded not guilty to a charge in an English court after allegedly using offensive language which caused distress to PC Lovell in Twickenham, south-west London, on January 30.

The four-day criminal trial is scheduled for February next year, and Kerr will maintain that his actions were not intended to cause distress to the officer and were not racially aggravated.

While Kerr has been silent since injuring her ACL in January, only speaking in court to confirm her identity and plead not guilty, she and her fiancée Kristie Mewis have been very active on Instagram.

Last week, Kerr and Mewis were pictured in a group photo at a celebration for their Matildas teammate Mackenzie Arnold’s 30th birthday.

“I spent my birthday week in 4 different countries, but I ended up with my favorite people in one place,” Arnold posted.

“Thank you to my family and friends for making it so special and @kirstysmith.11 for making turning 30 more than I ever imagined.”

Kerr responded to the post with a line from Natasha Bedingfield’s popular song Unwritten.

“Feel the rain on your skin,” Kerr posted early Tuesday morning Australian time, with a loving eyes emoji.

A slew of fans then followed suit and responded with more lines from the hit song.

Then, on the day Kerr faced court via video link, Mewis posted a very racy image of herself wearing a sheer black bodysuit with the caption “pure thing”.

Kerr responded to the image with a GIF of herself in full Matildas kit sticking out her tongue and giving a thumbs up.

Kerr’s response generated more than 30 comments.

‘What’s it like to give the gift of yourself?’ one asked.

“You’re a menace,” another laughed.

Another posted: ‘Samantha! Behave!’

Matildas teammate Alanna Kennedy also commented on Mewis’ post with the message ‘Good luck xoxo’.

Kerr responded to that with three skull emojis, social media slang for you laughed so hard you died.

It is not known what the comments related to and there is no suggestion they are related to Kerr’s court appearance or the pending trial.

The pair were also active over the weekend, posting on Instagram Stories to support Kerr’s injury replacement at Chelsea, Colombian striker Mayra Ramírez.

Both Kerr and Mewis posted individually to cheer Ramirez on when he came onto the pitch and when he scored a goal on his debut to seal a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Later, the couple’s dual account shared the image celebrating Ramírez’s goal, this time with a sad face emoji and a blue heart.

Chelsea and the Women’s Super League had not made any statement about Kerr at the time of this publication, although Chelsea previously condemned racism after Kerr’s teammate Lauren James received racial abuse in December.

On Tuesday afternoon, Football Australia boss James Johnson and Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson revealed Kerr had kept her legal scandal secret despite being charged on January 21.
