Maryland State Police told DailyMail.com that the senator was driving a Chevrolet Traverse when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala in northern Maryland, near the borders of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

According to authorities, the Fettermans were driving in Hancock, Maryland, when the accident occurred.

Following the accident, both Fettermans were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

The crash occurred on the westbound lane of Interstate 70 near Interstate 68, authorities said.

“According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet Traverse and a Chevrolet Impala were traveling west on I-70 when, for unknown reasons, the Traverse collided with the rear of the Impala,” a Maryland State Police spokesperson told DailyMail .com.

The collision occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday.

“A passenger of the Traverse and the operator of the Impala were transported by ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for treatment of their injuries,” the spokesperson revealed.

“No citations were issued,” authorities said before adding, “The accident investigation remains active and ongoing.”

A spokesperson for Fetterman’s office confirmed the incident to DailyMail.com.

“On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver.”

The couple was treated at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, as shown above, after the accident.
