John Farnham’s family have provided a heartening update on the music legend’s battle with cancer.

On Friday, the You’re The Voice hitmaker’s children announced that their father is “staying positive” after having a cancerous growth removed from his mouth in 2022.

The chart-topper was declared cancer-free last August and surprised fans earlier this year when he attended the wedding of her eldest son, Rob, and his new girlfriend Melissa.

“He’s doing really well,” Rob, 44, said during an appearance alongside his brother James, 36, on Seven’s Sunrise.

“Every day is another step forward, as it is for everyone who suffers from cancer,” she said.

“And he just has to keep moving forward and stay positive, and you know, keep moving forward.”

At one point during the segment, Rob appeared moved when Sunrise shared with viewers a photo of John at his son’s wedding in June.

The image, which shows a smiling John alongside his son in his wedding tuxedo, went viral after Rob shared it on his Instagram shortly after the nuptials.

The family was inundated with warm comments from fans.

“I’m glad everyone has accepted it so well,” Rob said on the breakfast show.

Elsewhere in the chat, James shared that his father was “blown away” when he saw superstar Celine Dion pay tribute to him in her recent Prime Video documentary I Am: Celine Dion.

John’s children also shared that they have signed up as ambassadors for the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day fundraiser on Thursday, August 22.

The update on John’s health comes ahead of Sunday’s Logies programme, where his documentary Finding the Voice is nominated for an award in the Best Factual or Documentary Programme category.

Fans can expect a dazzling musical tribute to the beloved star who has had a career spanning decades.

Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian will take to the stage alongside The Farnham Band for a special performance celebrating Farnham’s illustrious career and remarkable achievements.

The tribute is expected to be one of the highlights of the evening as the Logies pay tribute to an artist who has left an indelible mark on Australian music.

Sadly, John is unlikely to ever perform again after undergoing marathon surgery to remove the tumor from his mouth.

The operation, carried out by 26 medical professionals, also included the removal of much of his jaw and, 12 months after the surgery, Farnham revealed he was cancer-free.

He only discovered he had a cancerous growth in his mouth after his wife Jill insisted on taking him to the doctor for a check-up when he developed a persistent mouth ulcer.

Mauboy and Sebastian, who have been vocal in their admiration for Farnham, are expected to give a powerful and emotional performance.

Meanwhile, the evening’s presenters will include Celia Pacquola, Stephen Peacocke, Michelle Lim Davidson, Claudia Karvan, Costa Georgiadis, Sarah Abo, Charlie Albone, Stephen Curry and Muster Dogs, with more to be announced.

Comedian Sam Pang makes a welcome return as host.
