House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan has formally asked Special Counsel John Durham to appear before his committee next week to discuss his scathing report and answer questions from lawmakers.
Jordan, R-Ohio, confirmed to DailyMail.com that Durham has been asked to appear before his committee next week on Capitol Hill on Thursday, May 25 at 9 a.m. ET. The president sent a letter to the special counsel on Monday evening.
Earlier Monday, Special Counsel John Durham released a report concluding that the FBI does not have enough “factual evidence” to investigate allegations of Trump-Russia collusion.
Durham’s report, which is over 300 pages, revealed the Department of Justice and the FBI “did not fulfill their mission of strict fidelity to the law” when launch of the Trump-Russia investigation.
On Friday, the special counsel delivered the report on his four-year investigation, which cost more than $6 million in taxpayer dollars, to Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Special Counsel John Durham released his long-awaited report on Monday
The Attorney General provided a copy on Monday to key members of Congress, including Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin, Ranking Member Lindsey Graham, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, who is investigating ‘militarization’ FBI politician, and ranking member Jerry Nadler.
Durham writes in the report, “Based on the evidence gathered from the multiple, exhaustive and costly federal investigations into these matters, including this investigation, neither U.S. law enforcement nor the intelligence community appears to have possessed evidence actual collusion in their holdings at the start of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
The FBI’s opening of Crossfire Hurricane was “based on raw, unanalyzed, and unsubstantiated intelligence,” Durham says.
Crossfire Hurricane was the internal code name for an FBI investigation that began in 2016 to examine possible links between the then-Trump campaign and Russia. However, it has since been revealed that the entire basis of the investigation was based on false information.
Special Counsel John Durham was appointed in 2019 by then-Attorney General Bill Barr to investigate misconduct related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
The document then details numerous missteps by the FBI in its initial opening of the investigation, which relied on an unverified dossier created by British spy Christopher Steele.
The report includes scathing language saying that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications opened by the FBI as part of Crossfire Hurricane were not created as part of a mission of “strict loyalty to the law “.
FBI personnel working on the FISA requests “showed, at best, a cavalier attitude toward accuracy and completeness” and “ignored important requirements” on several occasions, Durham says.
He says this is evidence that FBI officials “did not honestly believe there were probable grounds to believe the target was knowingly engaged in covert intelligence activities on behalf of a foreign power.”
The FBI responded to the report in a statement Monday saying there are now “corrective actions” in place that would have prevented the “missteps in 2016.”
“The conduct in 2016 and 2017 reviewed by Special Counsel Durham was the reason current FBI management had already implemented dozens of corrective actions, which have now been in place for some time,” the FBI said. at DailyMail.com.
“Had these reforms been in place in 2016, the missteps identified in the report could have been avoided. This report reinforces the importance of ensuring that the FBI continues to do its job with the thoroughness, objectivity, and professionalism that the American people rightly deserve and expect.

Special Counsel John Durham was appointed in 2019 by then-Attorney General Bill Barr to investigate misconduct related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.

Special Counsel Durham reported to Congress on Monday on his four-year investigation, which cost more than $6 million in taxpayer dollars.
The FBI at the time Crossfire Hurricane opened was led by former Director James Comey and former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe.
While the report does not recommend any “overall change” in Justice Department guidelines or policies, it does say there is a “continuing need” for agencies to recognize the lack of “analytical rigor” and the “bias of confirmation” apparent.
Former President Trump celebrated the report’s findings in a post on his Truth Social account on Monday afternoon.
‘WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes that the FBI should never have launched the Trump-Russia investigation!’
“In other words, the American public has been scammed, just as they are being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA!” continues the former president.
Trump had repeatedly denounced the Russia investigation, calling it a “witch hunt” over the years.
