British No. 1 Johanna Konta has lost a place in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup after losing to defending champion Elina Svitolina.
The third round match was the second game of the day for Konta, who had completed his meeting with two-time winner Victoria Azarenka.
The 27-year-old Brit was 6-3, 3-0 ahead when the game resumed, and she ran to a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory.

But Konta could not continue his momentum when he faced number five Svitolina in Montreal.
The Ukrainian only needed a service break to seal the first set, and only gave up three points in his first service.
The second set was a more fought event, and both exchanged two breaks each to leave the game finely balanced at 4-4.
From there, Svitolina had all the answers and went ahead to 5-4 after coming out on top of a five deuce game in the Konta service.
She maintained her courage to serve the game, claiming a 6-3 6-4 victory after 85 minutes on the court.
Svitolina will now face Elise Mertens or Aryna Sabalenka.
