When the Cincinnati Reds called up a young 23-year-old first baseman in 2007, no one would have thought Joey Votto would become the player and personality that baseball would fall in love with. Now, 17 years later, 356 career home runs, six All-Star appearances and one MVP award, Votto has decided to hang up his cleats for good.

Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss Votto’s decision to retire after one season in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league system and whether the first baseman could be destined for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. They also discuss some of their favorite memories of Votto and what he meant to the city of Cincinnati.

Also on this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about the Seattle Mariners firing Scott Servais after being at the helm of the club since 2016 and why it’s okay to have fond memories of his time as manager. Then, they talk about the Los Angeles Angels extending general manager Perry Minasian’s contract for two more years before the guys make their picks for the good, the bad and the ugly for this week, including the fact that Aaron Judge is on a completely different level than everyone else on the field.
