Former England Test cricket captain Joe Root has been awarded an MBE for his services to cricket.
The 33-year-old had previously received the award as part of the 2020 New Year Honors list.
It came after the Yorkshire batsman helped England win the 2019 ODI World Cup, with Eoin Morgan’s side sealing a dramatic victory over New Zealand in the final at Lord’s, after the match went to a Super Over.
Root had also been England’s leading run-scorer during the tournament, finishing fifth in the leading run-scorers’ standings, scoring a total of 556.
He was also part of the team of the tournament, along with teammates Jason Roy, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer.

While England suffered a poor run of form in India, Root (pictured) showed his class by scoring a century in Ranchi.
Root has also been in excellent form for Yorkshire in the County Championship this season.
Root has since scored 11,736 Test runs for England and 6,522 runs in ODI cricket.
His teammate Stokes was also awarded an MBE as part of the 2020 Honors List.
