Joe Root is now the eighth most prolific batsman in Test cricket history after overtaking Shivnarine Chanderpaul on Sunday.
Root surpassed Chanderpaul’s career total of 11,869 runs moments after registering his 94th Test half-century for England.
The 33-year-old Yorkshireman then went on to score his 32nd career Test century, before eventually being dismissed for 122.
Root’s last big knock came against Chanderpaul’s old team, when England set the West Indies a target of 385 to win the second Test at Trent Bridge.
Chanderpaul scored 11,867 runs in 280 Test innings between 1994 and 2015.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s outing with the bat for Root was his 260th innings in Test cricket and saw him reach 11,940 runs.
The next batsman ahead of Root in the all-time rankings is another West Indies icon in the form of Brian Lara.
Lara scored 11,953 runs in 232 innings between 1990 and 2006.
Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar looks set to hold on to the top spot for a long time with his total of 15,921 runs.
Root’s rise to eighth spot saw West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul drop to ninth.
Sachin Tendulkar remains clearly at the top of the list, having scored 15,921 Test runs for India.
Root is the only player in the top 10 who is still active.
Australian Steve Smith, who is also still playing, is currently in 15th place with 9,685 runs.
