Joe Gomez criticized Brazil and their indiscipline after they beat England 1-0 on Saturday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side suffered their first defeat since the 2022 World Cup against the Selecao, with 17-year-old Endrick scoring the late winner at Wembley.
Despite more possession and plenty of effort, England were unable to find the quality needed to get back into the game, and Brazil’s tenacity helped ensure Dorival Junior won his first match since taking charge.
During the clash, Brazil committed 19 fouls to England’s 11 and Lucas Paquetá was perhaps lucky to avoid a second yellow card after being guilty of several late fouls in the first half.
And Gomez, who won his 12th England cap but first since October 2020, criticized Brazil’s conduct.

“I’m sure the number of fouls they committed was at the top end of the scale,” said the in-form Liverpool defender.
“It just shows that both teams wanted to win and didn’t treat it like a friendly. “It’s an important moment for the team, leading up to an important tournament, so that’s the way Gareth (Southgate) wants us to approach the game.
“It’s a huge game against a top team, so it was nice to be there. It’s disappointing that we didn’t get the win. The team played very well and dominated a lot of the game. They showed their quality on that occasion.”
England players and staff were left frustrated after Paqueta avoided a red card, and manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink became involved in a dispute with the fourth official at half-time, which was believed to be about the West Ham midfielder.
But despite his frustration, Gomez praised Brazil’s performance and insisted there wasn’t much at stake.

He added: ‘They have a well-established quality from the beginning. They are really good in and around the box, and with those combinations they showed how sharp they are.
“They destroyed the opportunity to win the game, and those are the fine margins.”
“They did well, but we also have a lot of positive things. We kept the ball well and had good possession. It’s an important game on Tuesday (against Belgium). We want to gain momentum again.’
