Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow doesn’t believe in his chances of being named NFL MVP this season amid competition from players like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
But the Cincinnati star has vowed to win the award before retiring from football.
Along with Bills quarterback Allen, Ravens star Jackson and Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, Burrow is among the betting favorites to be named MVP.
The Bengals star has thrown for 4,641 yards and 42 touchdowns this season, more than any other quarterback in the league.
That’s despite the fact that the Bengals are 8-8 and in serious danger of missing the postseason. Burrow was serenaded with ‘MVP’ chants after the win over the Broncos.
But before Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he downplayed his chances of winning the award.
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow doesn’t believe in his chances of being named MVP this season.
The Cincinnati star has thrown for 4,641 yards and 42 touchdowns, more than anyone.
“I doubt it,” Burrow said. ‘Normally you have to win your division… it is what it is. That’s how you vote and I don’t necessarily disagree with it.’
The Bengals currently sit in third place in the AFC North, behind Baltimore (11-5) and Pittsburgh (10-6).
However, the quarterback has no doubt he will earn the award at some point in the future. “Someday I’ll win one,” Burrow said.
Last week, Micah Parsons called Burrow the best player in the NFL right now after the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback inspired an overtime victory over the Denver Broncos.
Burrow continued his stellar season after completing 39 of his 49 passes for 412 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, to keep the Bengals’ playoff hopes alive.
The 28-year-old has at least 250 passing yards and three touchdowns in eight consecutive games, extending his NFL record.
‘If Joe Burrow takes this team to the playoffs, I don’t even think there should be a question about who the MVP is!! Damn! “The best in the world!” Parsons said on social media.
