President Joe Biden and Jill Biden joined the Queen and other senior members of the royal family on Friday night for a swanky party for G7 leaders.
The first pair arrived arm in arm; the president in a dark suit and stripped tie with the first lady wearing a trench coat over a dark dress.
Hosted by the 95-year-old monarch, the daring reception was held at Eden Project, a lush, domed eco-tourism site built in a former quarry. It features several giant domes housing what the project’s website calls “the largest rainforest in captivity.”
The Bidens spoke to the Queen on a reception line. The gathering looked jovial, both the members of the first pair and the monarch smiling broadly.
Biden previously met with The Queen in 1982, according to the White House.
Prince Charles, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge joined G7 leaders at the reception where Charles made comments during the event.
The leaders also joined The Queen for a family photo. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson accompanied the Queen to the photo with French President Emmanuel Macron by their side. Biden came in with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The leaders were socially distancing for the photo, an appropriate distance from each other while it was being taken. Biden was a few seats away from the monarch.
Earlier in the day, Jill Biden, who was at an event with Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, was asked if she asked the Duchess for advice on meeting the Queen.
The Bidens will have a private audience with The Queen on Sunday, including tea.
“No, I didn’t,” she replied. ‘We’ve been busy. Weren’t you in that room? We were talking about education.’
Boris Johnson and his new wife Carrie Johnson – dressed in an understated black floral dress contrasting the fuchsia pink number she donned earlier Friday to meet leaders – were seen as greetings from the Royals.
Kate cut an elegant figure in a mid-length cream dress while Camilla opted for a black and white long-sleeved dress. The Queen fitted the horticultural theme of the venue in a floral patterned dress.
The Bidens and other leaders walked under the leaf-covered arches to the diner.

The menu for the event has been put together by Chef Emily Scott of the Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay and features Cornish turbot and new potatoes for the main course, and local cheeses.
After that, Prince Charles, with Prince William by his side, will host a reception for the leaders and executives of some of the world’s largest companies to discuss how the private sector can work with governments to tackle climate change.
The Royals are central to Britain’s diplomatic mission to court the US, as Johnson pushes for a swift free trade deal with Biden and a quarantine-free travel corridor this summer.
