Jodie Turner-Smith admits her divorce from husband Joshua Jackson "sucks", as the fiercely private star gives rare insight into their "tough" split, amid her ex's new romance with Lupita Nyong'o.

Jodie Turner-Smith has opened up about how “tough” her split from husband Joshua Jackson has been and admitted getting divorced “sucks” but sees the split as a chance for a “fresh start.”

During her first appearance on The View on Monday, Jodie, 37, brought up the fact that her love life had previously been discussed on the daytime show as part of the Hot Topics segment, before proceeding to shed some personal light on her life in the middle of it. Her ex’s new romance with actress Lupita Nyong’o.

Sunny Hostin started the conversation and asked, ‘You and your ex filed for divorce, which you said you didn’t consider a failure. Not all people see their situation that way, how did you get there, to that space?’ to which Jodie responded: “In a general sense, in life, I really believe that life comes from me and not from me.”

Jodie, who filed for divorce from Joshua in October 2023, continued: “And that’s why I want to look at everything… and you know, I couldn’t have the career that I have if I looked at the things that don’t work.” It’s considered a failure, and I think when you look at it that way, you get stuck on a certain outcome.

“Everything is an opportunity and it’s a new beginning, and yes, it’s hard, it’s not easy and it sucks, but you know what’s even more exciting is what’s on the other side of that, so here’s the other side ?” !’ she added as the live studio audience applauded her.

The panel also wanted to ask Jodie about her four-year-old daughter called Juno, who she shares with her ex Joshua, 45.

Jodie said of her little girl: ‘You know, something that’s really nice is… because obviously… I’m going through a separation with her dad, and even just being a working mom, when I’m gone. Somewhere I tell my daughter, “You know, you can call me whenever you want,” and she started repeating that.

“Every time he says goodbye to me, he says, ‘Remember, if you need me, I’m here.’ You can call me anytime,” and even if I’m working, like I’m about to do a Zoom, she says, “remember I’m here for you if you need me.” I love that!’

TMZ first reported in October of last year that Jodie had filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, while also asking for joint custody of Juno.

The separation date was listed as September 13, just one day after the couple attended New York Fashion Week together.

Weeks after Jodie officially filed for divorce, Joshua was photographed holding hands with Lupita Nyong’o, 40, hours after it was confirmed they were dating.

The first time he broke his silence about their separation was during an interview with Sunday Times Style magazine in February 2024.

‘Sometimes the things we really want to work just don’t end up working, and that’s okay. The most important thing is that you choose what is healthiest for you and your family and definitely for your children,’ she said at the time.

‘There are so many different moments in our lives where we look at ourselves and say, “Who am I and am I being true to that?” If the answer is no, then we have to act because I think there are visible scars from being in places that are not good for us. And they don’t just affect us, they affect everyone around us.

‘I don’t think it’s a failure. We obviously had such a beautiful time together. And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting!

“The bravest thing in the world is to recognize when something is not working and make a decision, and I always want to set that example for my daughter.

‘The big takeaway is that it’s about as much love and joy as ever. “It’s just about taking a step forward towards a better life for everyone involved,” he added to the publication.
