Jodie Speers: Channel Seven star quits after 15 years at the network

A long-serving Channel Seven star has announced his departure after 15 years with the channel.

Jodie Speers, 41, won’t be returning to the 7News office to read the early morning news and will instead venture into a whole new profession.

Taking to Instagram on Friday morning following her latest appearance in front of the camera, she penned a moving message reflecting on her career at the TV network.

‘The end of an era! I didn’t expect to feel so emotional today!’ she said in her caption.

“This work has given me so much over the last 15 years. From a stint in Federal Parliament, to another in court, and everything from crime scenes to red carpets, bushfires to brain operations, every day was different.

“Sometimes sad, often stressful, sometimes hilarious or downright bizarre. »

Speers added: “Since then, I’ve spent years reading early news…juggling babies and toddlers, getting up at an ungodly hour…but getting home in time to see my babies wake up.

Speers, who married radio host Ben Fordham in 2011, admitted she was looking forward to starting a new career in law.

“For about a year I have been studying law and am now looking forward to completing my Juris Doctorate and returning to the court in a different capacity! » she continued.

“As always, people make the place – I’ve worked with many people over the years – and I can’t think of a single bad egg. These are the guys I’m definitely going to miss the most.

Taking to Instagram on Friday morning following her latest appearance in front of the camera, the longtime journalist penned a moving post reflecting on her career at the TV network.

Speers has hosted the Early News bulletin for Channel Seven since January 2016. Her husband Ben Fordham presents the top-rated breakfast show on talkback station 2GB.

Speers’ friends and colleagues at Channel Seven congratulated her on her role and wished her all the best for her exciting future.

“I’m going to miss starting our day with you,” commented Sunrise meteorologist Sam Mac. — But your new job could well be useful to me one day. Congratulations well done.’

‘Great woman!!! Congratulations on your brilliant television career and good luck for the next exciting chapter,” wrote Channel Nine journalist Belinda Russell.

“Just studying law in your spare time…what a machine,” added Leila McKinnon.

Speers and Fordham, who is also a Channel Nine presenter, married in 2011 and are parents to three children: Freddy, nine, Pearl, seven, and Marigold, four.

She has hosted Channel Seven’s Early News bulletin since January 2016.
