Joanna Page has revealed that filming Gavin & Stacey made her feel like a “pop star” because of the huge crowds gathering trying to catch a glimpse.

The 47-year-old Welsh actress, who has played Stacey in the sitcom since 2007, has holed up in a hotel in Wales while the cast film the latest episode.

Speaking from his hotel room about his Off TV podcast – which she hosts alongside EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy – Joanna remained tight-lipped on details of the upcoming Christmas special.

But he did talk about how it’s felt to have huge numbers of fans flocking to see the actors’ film and the overwhelming support they’ve given him.

“It’s crazy that you arrive in the car, get out and the crowd is going ‘Wayyy’ and you really feel like a pop star or something,” he said of filming in Wales.

When Natalie asked how it felt to be back filming, Joanna said: “Oh my God, it’s so much fun. I’m laughing so hard, but it’s crazy, totally crazy.”

“We’ve been on the slots, I’ve been filming my scenes with Nessa on the slots. And it’s all done because there are so many people, we’re filming and suddenly the beach is full of people coming to see us. It’s so lovely and sweet.”

She added: ‘And there are so many dogs being euthanised, so I’m meeting all these different little dogs.

“The audience is coming and so are the fans. It’s absolutely beautiful because it’s been pouring with rain lately, but people are still coming down and standing to see us. It’s so sweet and they bring little gifts and presents. It’s lovely.”

Snaps have captured the huge crowds of fans who have flocked to see the cast film in recent weeks, but Joanna said production has put up barriers to ensure some scenes are not spoiled.

She said: ‘We’ve been filming near Stacey’s house recently and we had barriers up for the last special but the barriers are quite far apart now, very far down the road, so you can’t really see anything or what’s going on.

“But it’s crazy that you arrive in the car and you get out and the crowd is like ‘Weyyy’ and you really feel like a pop star or something.”

Joanna added: ‘So I’m enjoying it for now because I know when I’m done I’ll be coming home to my four kids who will be saying, ‘Mummy, Mummy, can I have my tea? Mummy, I want this, I want that.’ So I’m enjoying being spoiled because it’s not going to last long.’

The Love Actually star was then asked if there was anything she could say about the upcoming special, but she insisted all details were top secret.

“But everything there is very secret,” Joanna said.

‘I went to Marks & Spencer yesterday to buy some bras and when I was there I had a massage at the hotel and the woman behind the counter asked me what hotel I was in and I had to say, “I can’t say.” I’m too scared to say anything. I can’t say anything at all.’

Gavin and Stacey fans were sent into a frenzy when the cast were spotted filming a wedding scene for the highly-anticipated final episode on Tuesday.

After the latest Christmas special ended with a marriage proposal, it looked like James Corden’s character Smithy might finally get his happy ending with Nessa (Ruth Jones) after he was spotted filming in a groom’s suit.

Making a surprise return to set was actor Steffan Rhodri, who plays Nessa’s ex-fiancé Dave Coaches, casting doubt on whether Smithy and Nessa will tie the knot after five years of speculation.

Steffan, wearing a black leather jacket and a quirky print shirt, was pictured entering the set with Julia Davis, who plays Dawn Sutcliffe.

He made his final appearance on Gavin and Stacey at the end of the third season when Nessa decided she couldn’t go through with her wedding.

His surprise return will no doubt spark concern among fans that Smithy turned down Nessa’s proposal.

Nessa, who was noticeably absent from the set, was also spotted without a ring on her ring finger this week, sparking further speculation that the couple will not be tying the knot.
