After his inauguration yesterday, US President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders

JK Rowling has spoken out in support of Donald Trump’s crackdown on transgender and gender identity rights following his return to the White House.

The Harry Potter author claimed the ‘left’ had overlooked a ‘calamity’ with their ’embrace of gender identity ideology’ when supporting the US president’s action.

After his inauguration yesterday, Trump signed a series of executive orders, including pardoning rioters at the US Capitol and withdrawing from the Paris climate treaty.

He also ruled that the US will only recognize two genders – male and female – which are “not mutable,” and demanded that officials use the term “sex” instead of “gender.”

His order requires that identity documents – such as passports and visas – must be based on “an individual’s immutable biological classification as male or female.”

And federal agencies were urged to end funding for “gender ideology.”

LGBTQ+ rights groups vowed to fight back against Trump’s actions, but he found a supporter in Rowling.

The writer, who now spends much of her time clashing with people online over gender issues, posted on X about the US president’s order.

She wrote: “A vocal section of the left still refuses to break out of their ‘sex-is-a-social-construction’ bubble and acknowledge that their embrace of gender identity ideology has been a disaster.

“They were warned that the right was taking advantage of their betrayal of women and girls. They didn’t listen.’

Reacting to Trump’s action on his first day back in the White House, Human Rights Campaign Chairman Kelley Robinson said: “We refuse to back down or be intimidated.

“We’re not going anywhere and we will fight back against these harmful provisions with everything we have.”
